Shereen's Bio:

I am Shereen Abed Alkareem Hasanin, a native of Gaza city, born in 1996, with a background in both architecture and visual arts. Holding a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), I ventured into the realm of creativity and innovation. Before the tragic events of the genocide in October 2024, I contributed my skills at V-Verse, a pioneering company focused on constructing the metaverse, tailoring digital experiences, and exploring practical applications of this virtual realm through cutting-edge technology. My journey commenced through self-guided learning and experimentation, honing my craft within the confines of my personal studio. Over time, I have showcased my work in various local and international collective exhibitions, including:

- Qurban/Shababek Contemplinkages in 2019
- Solo Exhibition for Artistic Residence/Shababek Contemplinkages in 2020
- Through the Eye of a Needle/The Red Cross/ in 2022
- Tadafuq/ in Madrid and Gaza /in 2023
- Artistic residency at the Spanish Academy/ in Rome/ in 2023.

Growing up amidst ceaseless conflict, I felt my sense of self and identity slipping away. My gaze turned outward, absorbing the turbulent social landscape and the weighty legacy of my family and heritage. The dual identities of being both human and Palestinian tormented me, blurring the lines of my existence. I can't pinpoint the exact moment when my artistic journey began; it seemed to emerge organically from within. Words failed me when trying to articulate the injustices and cruelty endured in Gaza, until my pen became my voice.

I'm not an artist; I'm a tangle of obscure black strokes, a conduit for the unheard voices, the overlooked cries. I'm not an artist; I'm a human fighting to be heard. My inked pen understands me more deeply than I do myself; its lines weave my tales onto the canvas of my life. It takes my words, my stories, and scatters them across the blankness in black. These lines articulate all I wish to express, turning personal anguish into a shared memory.

Every line has a story, and every story has a thousand feelings...

I am currently stuck in Gaza along with some of my siblings. While I fight with death everyday, I am also fighting to protect my sister who has complete cerebral and motor palsy.
